Two su(2) BPS monopoles approach head on. The colours reflect the energy density with the deeper colour representing a greater energy density. As they are further apart the energy density is concentrated about two points, but as they approach one-another the energy is spread out. Indeed, when the monopoles are coincident the energy density is spread out around a torus. Unlike two billiards hitting one-another head-on the two monopoles then separate at 90° to the incident direction (in the plane of the torus). This animation was made from the evaluation of analytic results obtained in the paper "The Charge 2 Monopole via the ADHMN construction".
