Symmetry in quantum mechanical systems

Many quantum mechanical systems are highly symmetrical and this allows their solution in terms of representation theory. In this project you will solve some quantum mechanical systems from this point of view. Such systems include the harmonic oscillator, the hydrogen atom and the bosonic string.

The necessary background in Lie algebras, representation theory and string theory will be covered during the project.

There is scope in this project for some computer work; although this is not necessary.
