I am Professor and Personal Chair of Noncommutative Algebra in the School of Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh, where I am a member of the Hodge Institute and the algebra group. My research is on noncommutative ring theory, algebraic geometry, and their interactions. In recent years I have focussed on the ring theory of enveloping algebras of infinite-dimensional Lie algebras. For more information about me, see: James Timmins and I are organising a meeting on Ring-Theoretic Aspects of Lie Theory in Edinburgh on 14-15 July, 2025. I am convenor of the editorial board of Proceedings of the Edinburgh Mathematical Society. Instructions for contributors. Some general advice for maths Ph.D. students.
