Postgraduate programmes
I am Director of Statistics Postgraduate programmes in the School of Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh. Our MSc programmes combine statistical foundations, computation and applications:
- MSc Statistics with Artificial Intelligence — our new programme, focusing on the statistical foundations and methods underpinning AI.
- MSc Statistics and Operational Research — statistical modelling, optimisation and decision-making.
- MSc Statistics with Data Science — statistical foundations and computational methods for analysing data.
The programme pages provide current information on content, entry requirements and applications.
Teaching
Current teaching
In 2026/27, I am teaching Theory of Statistical Inference (MATH10028).
Past teaching
I have previously taught Statistical Modelling, Statistical Programming, Research Topics in Statistics and Time Series.
Academic service
Extreme Value Analysis 2021
I was the lead organiser of the 12th International Conference in Extreme Value Analysis (EVA 2021), held online from 28 June to 2 July 2021. The conference brought together researchers in extreme value theory, methodology and applications, with invited and contributed sessions, plenary lectures, a data challenge and a student paper competition.
Professional and School service
- School of Mathematics: I currently serve as a staff representative.
- Royal Statistical Society: I have served as a member of the Research Section Committee.
- Extremes research community: I am a founding member of GL(EN)², the Glasgow–Lancaster–Edinburgh–Newcastle Extremes Network.
Selected events
Alongside EVA 2021, I have helped organise events connecting statistical methodology with neuroscience.
