I am currently a Reader in the School of Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh, and a member of the Maxwell Institute for Mathematical Sciences.
Previous to this, I have been a lecturer at Edinburgh, preceded by postdocs in the groups of Serafim Kalliadasis (Imperial College, Chemical Engineering) and Volker Betz (University of Warwick, Mathematics, now TU Darmstadt, Mathematics). I undertook my PhD under Gero Friesecke (University of Warwick, Maths, now TU Munich, Mathematics).
Broadly speaking, my research concerns modelling, analysis and numerics for complex, multiscale systems. My work has applications in chemistry, physics, engineering and biology. Both the areas and techniques used in my research are very wide-ranging. I’m always happy to discuss my work with anyone, especially mathematicians, applied scientists, and prospective PhD students.
Trivia: I have Erdös number 4: Me –> Volker Betz –> Peter Mörters –> David Preiss –> Paul Erdös, and Bacon number 3: Me –(G103)–> Patrick Niknejad –(Harry Potter)–> Gary Oldman –(Criminal Law)–> Kevin Bacon.
This gives me an Erdös-Bacon number of 7.
