The mixed fibre

In a fibre of multiplicities (3,2)(3,2), let Γ\Gamma be the strict transform of the plane line joining the two cluster supports. Theorem 96.4 reduces any possible nonpositive-beta divisor to a closed point of Γ\Gamma other than its A2A_2 endpoint. The fibre flag has S(WT;Γ)=8380>1,S(W^T;\Gamma)=\frac{83}{80}>1, so it does not provide the required estimate. We first treat the A1A_1 endpoint. We then extract the curve with transverse weights (1,2)(1,2), obtaining semistability over its interior. Finally, an ordinary point extraction improves the interior estimate to 32/2932/29.

Example 97.1. The morphism [x:y]↦[x3y2:x5+y5][x:y]\mapsto[x^3y^2:x^5+y^5] has the mixed fibre 3[0:1]+2[1:0]3[0:1]+2[1:0]. Its joining line is the strict transform of t=Y1=0t=Y_1=0. The bounds at its A2A_2 and A1A_1 endpoints are 160/151160/151 and 240/221240/221; at every other point of the line the bound is 32/2932/29. These estimates are proved below for arbitrary graph quintics with such a fibre.
